To set up IPTV on Android TV or Google TV, install an IPTV player from the Google Play Store, open it and sign in with the details from your IPVario welcome email (Xtream Codes login or M3U link). The whole process takes about 10 minutes and works the same on TVs with Google TV built in, Google TV streaming devices and Android TV boxes.

Which devices run Android TV or Google TV?
- Smart TVs from brands such as Sony, TCL and Hisense, many of which have Google TV or Android TV built in.
- Google TV streaming devices, such as the Google TV Streamer or the earlier Chromecast with Google TV.
- Streaming players such as the NVIDIA Shield TV.
- Android TV boxes that plug into your TV’s HDMI port.
Google TV is the newer interface built on top of Android TV. For IPTV the steps are almost identical.
What you need
- An Android TV or Google TV device signed in to a Google account.
- A stable internet connection: about 10 Mbps per HD stream and around 25 Mbps for 4K (how much speed you need).
- Your IPVario login details, which you receive by email after choosing an IPVario IPTV plan.
Step 1: Connect and update your device
Use Ethernet if your device has a port; otherwise connect to a 5 GHz Wi-Fi network. Then check for updates. On most Google TV devices you’ll find this under Settings › System › About › System update; on Android TV under Settings › Device Preferences › About › System update. Menu names vary slightly by manufacturer.
Step 2: Install an IPTV player from Google Play
Open the Apps tab (Google TV) or the Google Play Store (Android TV), search for an IPTV player and select Install. You can also use voice search with the Google Assistant button on your remote.
When choosing a player, look for one that supports both M3U and Xtream Codes, shows a TV guide (EPG) and has been updated recently. Stick to Google Play: installing apps from unknown websites (“sideloading”) skips Google’s security checks and can put your device and accounts at risk.
Step 3: Sign in with your IPVario details
Open the player and choose a login method:
- Xtream Codes (API): enter the server URL, username and password from your email. This usually loads live TV, movies, series and the TV guide automatically.
- M3U playlist: paste the playlist link from your email.
Not sure which to use? Read M3U vs. Xtream Codes.
Step 4: Set up the TV guide and favorites
After signing in, give the app a minute to load the channel list and guide. Then mark your favorite channels so they appear at the top. If the guide is empty or shows the wrong times, our article What is an EPG? explains how to fix it.
Tips for the smoothest picture
- Use a wired connection if you can. Many Google TV streaming devices can use a USB-C Ethernet adapter.
- Clear the app cache if the player becomes slow: Settings › Apps, select the player, then Clear cache.
- Free up storage by uninstalling apps you don’t use; devices with little free space slow down.
- Restart the device now and then to clear temporary memory.
Built-in Google TV or a separate box?
If your TV already runs Google TV and feels responsive, you don’t need anything else. A separate streaming device is worth it when your TV’s built-in system is slow, has little storage or no longer receives updates.
